In a recent piece of news, the five-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings have signed the young batting sensation from Mumbai, Ayush Mhatre for the remainder of the tournament. The talented teenager is all set to replace the injured CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was ruled out of the tournament due to an injury that he sustained in his elbow.
It compelled management to take a strong call to replace Ruturaj Gaikwad, and they eventually welcomed Ayush Mhatre on board. He went through a 2-week trial before signing a contract with one of the most successful franchises in the history of the tournament.

Mhatre has left an amazing impact with the bat in the Indian domestic circuit. He has appeared in nine first-class matches for his home team, Mumbai, in the domestic circuit. The 17-year-old has scored 504 runs in 16 innings, with a decent batting average of 31.50, hitting two centuries and a half-century. Besides that, he has also aggregated 458 runs in seven innings, with an amazing batting average of 65.42, including two centuries and a half-century.
Notably, Mhatre had also spoken about his cricketing journey while growing in Mumbai from age-group cricket to the under-19 or under-17 level.
“I started to play when I was 6, but my real cricket started when I was 10. got admission to Don Bosco High School in Matung, and it was my grandfather, Laxmikant Naik (Nana), who took the responsibility of taking me there every day. So in the morning, I used to go for practice in Matunga, attend school, and then go to Churchgate to attend another practice. My family used to tell my grandfather not to ruin my sleep, but now, they too feel that my sacrifice is paying off,” said Mhatre to Indian Express in an interview last year.
“My father and mother never made me realise that there is some financial problem at home. Like if a bat is broken, then I don't ask for a new one. Even today, my father travels with me on the local train so that if any verbal fight happens with someone, he will handle it so that I don't take any negativity when I'm going to bat,” he added later.
