Practice session
The stage is set for the most-awaited Pink Ball match between Australia and India at the Adelaide Oval, Adelaide. Before the game, India was practising when they came across an ugly incident related to the fans. While the players were busy with the practice sessions, fans who were present at the sessions disturbed the atmosphere. They were commenting and asking the players to play big shots in the practice sessions.
Since the sessions were held in open spaces, the crowd was extremely close to the players. Reportedly, there was no interaction between the fans and the players but the incident turned out to be extremely ugly. Soon after that, the Indian team complained to Cricket Australia, and a stern decision was taken. Henceforth, fans wouldn't be allowed to watch the players sweat it out during the practice sessions before the game.
It wasn't a fruitful training session for the Indian team as the fans' noises were consistently interrupted. There were people who were calling out the players' names, and some were passing negative comments. They also suggested that the players play in a certain way. This ugly incident was nothing that the cricketers would have expected it to turn out to be.
As per The Age, "A source close to the Board of Control for Cricket in India indicated that players were also subjected to requests for selfies while they were batting, constant commentary of their actions nearby, and some were mocked or laughed at after missing the ball or getting out."
Very different. Not used to it: KL Rahul
India's opening batter, KL Rahul, opened up about the over-crowded practice sessions before the start of the Pink Ball Test match. He also revealed that they weren't 'used to it.' However, he was quite happy with the outcome of the open sessions as it would give them a fair idea about how the atmosphere would be during the game days.
While addressing the press, Rahul said, "Very different. Not used to it. We have practice with crowds but it’s mostly T20 and ODIs back home, we’ve had crowds come in and watch our practice sessions. So it felt a little different but also it adds to your preparation for the Test match and gives us a bit of what we can expect on day one or all the days here in Adelaide, so it was good."
