India's former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar spoke about Virat Kohli and his dedication to the game since the player stepped out to practice in the nets ahead of the third Test match against Australia. After scoring less than 20 runs in two innings, Kohli went on to spend some time in the field, practicing and getting his shots right.
While speaking on Star Sports, Gavaskar heaps praise on Kohli for putting in extra efforts in the field. He said, "By going out in the nets today, he shows his dedication. But that is what I would like to see from everybody else. He's not scored runs. He is very proud of what he achieves and does for India, and because he's not scored runs in this game, he's out in the nets."
Adelaide Oval had been a 'Den' for Kohli in the past. In four matches in Adelaide, Kohli scored 509 runs with an average of 63.62. His highest score is 141 runs. He just has one half-century and three centuries at the Adelaide Oval. However, the star player failed to perform in the 2nd Test match which might have hurt him immensely. This might be one of the reasons for his rigorous practice sessions ahead of the 3rd game.
You've got to put in the effort: Sunil Gavaskar
Sunil Gavaskar have been an absolute fan of Virat Kohli and the way he manages to keep himself running all these years. At 36 years, the player hasn't stopped hustling and is still the fittest player of the generation because of the efforts he puts in throughout the year. Gavaskar spoke about a reality where taking wickets and scoring runs isn't possible everyday, but putting in the required 'efforts' is important, which is done by Kohli.
"He's working hard, he's sweating, and that is what you want to see. After that if you get out, no problem, because that's what sport is all about. You will get runs one day, will get wickets one day, next day you will not. But you've got to put in the effort. He is putting in the hard yards, he is putting in the effort, and that's why I won't be surprised if he's back amongst the runs in the next game," added Gavaskar while talking to Star Sports.
