India's prime bowler, Mohammed Shami, who performed exceptionally well during the ODI World Cup 2023, has disappeared after suffering an injury during the tournament. He spoke about his comeback plans and clearly mentioned that he wouldn't be wearing the Indian jersey anytime soon.

"It’s difficult to say when I will be back. I am trying hard, but hopefully, you will get to see me in Bengal colours before I don the India jersey again. I will come to play two-three matches for Bengal and will come fully prepared for it," said Mohammed Shami as quoted by News18.

In the World Cup 2023, Shami claimed 23 wickets in just seven matches and became the tournament's leading wicket-taker. He came in mid-way and took the team a long way. Even in the finals, he tried his best to take the team past the victory line but failed to do so. Due to injury, Shami had to miss the IPL 2024 and the T20 World Cup as well.

We never thought the injury would be this serious: Mohammed Shami

Mohammed Shami revealed that nobody knew how serious the injury became. They thought it would last for some days when he was injured during the ODI World Cup. But the recovery is taking a lot of time, and hence, his comeback has been delayed. For India, he has given his best and will be looking forward to joining the squad soon.

"We never thought the injury would be this serious. The plan was to address it after the World Cup since we had the IPL and the ICC T20 mega event coming almost back-to-back after last year’s World Cup," said Mohammed Shami.
