In what seems to be a major development on the ‘suspended’ Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025), the BCCI has reportedly shortlisted three cities, Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad, to resume the remainder of the tournament. The South Indian cities will host the remainder of the tournament’s 18th edition if it resumes in May only.

A report in ESPNcricinfo reads that, “the IPL chose the three southern Indian cities as part of a likely plan in case it gets the nod from the Indian government to resume the tournament.”

Notably, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had to take this tough call of suspending the tournament midway due to the war-like situation and escalating cross-border rifts between India and Pakistan.

In the same line of events, the BCCI and IPL officials are also in constant touch with the relevant government authorities regarding the suitable conditions for the resumption of the tournament. Meanwhile, the Board also understands it is not an easy task to resume the tournament immediately in the current tense situation. Subsequently, the BCCI has also informed the franchise owners and officials about the same.

The confirmation from IPL and BCCI is still awaited on the resumption and reorganising the called-off PBKS vs DC game that was played for only 10.1 overs of the first innings in Dharamsala.  Apart from this game, a total of 16 matches are remaining to be played in the rest of the tournament, including the 22 league matches, alongside three playoffs and the summit clash of the tournament.

Earlier on Friday, former India skipper and ex-BCCI president Sourav Ganguly also spoke about BCCI’s decision to suspend the tournament. He also extended his trust in the Indian cricket board’s ability to conduct the remainder of the tournament smoothly without any further hindrances.

“I have seen today that the IPL is suspended for 7 days. The BCCI will complete this. BCCI is efficient. During COVID, it was another emergency. I am sure the BCCI will complete it. A COVID-like situation is different. BCCI will work as per Indian government guidelines,” said Ganguly to India Today
