The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to create a new league for the legends of the game. According to a report carried by Dainik Jagran, the plan is to host the event just like the Indian Premier League.
Fans will be happy to see the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag, and many more big names take to the field once more. According to reports many of the former players have had a chat with the BCCI and expressed their desire for a league to be held.
While speaking to Dainik Jagran one source in the know said “We have received a proposal from former cricketers in this regard. We are mulling over it”. If the league does come to fruition it may be played in 2025. This will be the third league organized by BCCI after Indian Premier League and Women’s Premier League.
BCCI’s likely legend league along IPL lines?
According to reports, the former players have asked the BCCI to hold the proposed league in the same league as the IPL. There will be a player auction as well the matches playing across different centres with the teams being based out of different cities.
In the last few years, a lot of Legend Leagues have come up. Recently there was a World Championship of Legends that was played in England. India Champions led by Yuvraj Singh had won the event. It is expected that not only Indian stars but also some of the former greats from across the world will be part of the league. The likes of Chris Gayle, AB De Villiers and many other stars could be part of the tournament.
The BCCI is yet to make up their mind over the league and a final call will be taken soon. If such a league does come to fruition many cricket fans will be waiting in the wings to have a look at their favourite stars from years gone by and take the field once more.
