In a recent piece of news, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) invited applications for the position of head coach of the senior Indian Men’s Cricket Team. The BCCI announced the ‘invitation of applications’ on Monday, May 13 through an official media release.

“The BCCI on Monday invited applications for the position of Head Coach of the Senior Men’s Team. Applications for the position should be submitted by 6 PM IST on May 27, 2024,” read BCCI’s official media release.

“The selection process will include a thorough review of applications, followed by personal interviews and assessments of shortlisted candidates,” the release added further.

ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is likely to be the last assignment for Rahul Dravid

Notably, this announcement from the BCCI is also hinting towards the end of the ‘Rahul Dravid’ era in Indian cricket. The former skipper and the current head coach, Rahul Dravid’s contract as coach with BCCI is ending in June; so, the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies next month will be his last stint of his current tenure with Team India as the head coach.

However, the BCCI norms state that Rahul Dravid can reapply for the position of ‘head coach’ but there are very less chances that he is going to reapply for the position. So, there are very many chances that fans might see a new head coach of India’s Senior Men’s Cricket Team post-Rahul Dravid era.

India had fairly a good run of form under the coaching of Rahul Dravid as they reached the semi-final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 followed by playing in the Finals of the World Test Championship 2023 and ODI World Cup 2023, respectively last year.

Now, the men in blue will be eyeing to finish on top and end the trophy drought with a win in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 to bid a memorable farewell to Rahul Dravid.
