The impasse over the hosting and venues for the Champions Trophy seems to have ended. The reports state that India will play all of its matches in UAE during the upcoming event.

The reports also stated that all of Pakistan’s matches will also follow Hybrid for ICC events till 2027. According to reports, Pakistan will not tour India for the T20 World Cup in 2026 and will play their matches in Sri Lanka. A source, while speaking to PTI, said, “It's been agreed in principle by all parties that the 2025 Champions Trophy will be held in the UAE and Pakistan with India playing its matches in Dubai. It's a win-win situation for all stakeholders.”

The source also said, “During the 2026 men's T20 World Cup, Pakistan will play its matches in Sri Lanka. The compensation demanded by PCB for the Champions Trophy hybrid model is still under consideration.”

Pakistan Cricket Board chief Mohsin Naqvi, during the recent ICC meet, had said, “Cricket should win, that's most important but with respect for all. We are going to do what's best for cricket. Whichever formula we go for, it would be on equal terms.”

Did Broadcaster's threat help end the Impasse?

Leading newspaper Times of India recently put out a statement where Star Sports had given a huge ultimatum to ICC. The report from Times of India noted the amount of losses that could be suffered in case of India or Pakistan not playing Champions Trophy 2025. According to the report, ICC would have had to forgo 675 Million Dollars if India had pulled out and less than 75 Million dollars if Pakistan had pulled out.

Few sources in the know of the happenings while speaking to the Times of India said, “The ICC is well within its rights to shift the tournament to any country as long as it is in the best interests of the property. The decision is not so complicated as it is being made to look."

The report also stated, “There is no question of the tournament getting cancelled. As for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) saying they will do a quid-pro with India when the Asia Cup arrives, let's be clear that the current topic is an ICC matter. The Asia Cup is for the Asian Cricket Council to decide. Neither is the federation the same, nor the broadcaster and it's a completely separate issue for PCB to think about."
