The move comes after the left-arm spinner played a key role in his country’s 2-0 Test series win against Sri Lanka recently. Kuhnemann picked nine wickets in the first Test match with figures of 5/63 and 4/86.
In the second Test match, the 28-year-old picked seven wickets with figures of 3/63 and 4/63 in Galle. Kuhnemann made his Test debut in 2023 during the Delhi Test against India. In his debut match, the Aussie went onto snare two wickets, which included Virat Kohli for 44 and Mohammed Shami for two runs.
So far, Matthew Kuhnemann has played five Test matches and picked 25 wickets with two fifers and a best of 5/16. The left-arm spin bowler has also played four ODI matches and picked six wickets, with his last match coming in 2022 against Sri Lanka in Colombo. Former Bangladeshi skipper Shakib Al Hasan has been in the news for his action coming under scanner after being reported during a county match last year.

Once Matthew Kuhnemann’s actions came under scanner, Cricket Australia put out a statement. Cricket Australia’s statement read, “The Australian team was notified of the match officials' referral following the second Test against Sri Lanka in Galle and will support Matt through the process of clearing this matter."
CA’s statement also read, “Matt has played 124 professional matches since his debut in 2017, including five Test matches and four one-day internationals.
