The date of March 10, 2025, marked a historic day in international cricket when the Falkland Islands became the 106th nation to feature in international cricket. The team featured all 11 players above the age bracket of 31. In another shocking news, all of their players were of more than the age of 40 except for two players between 30 to 40.
But the player who attracted the eyeballs and made a historic record for making a historic debut-record international record was Andre Brownlee. On the match day against Costa Rica on March 10, 2025, his age was recorded as 62 years and 147 days.
With this appearance for the Falkland Islands, he became the first man cricketer to play international cricket after the age of 60. He appeared for Costa Rica in two more T20 internationals in the second and third T20I on March 11 and 12.
In the overall list of international debuts of the oldest cricketers, he is now in the third spot across both men’s and women’s cricket. He is following Guernsey Women’s Philippa Stahelin, who made her debut against Norway Women in 2024. Before her, it was Sally Barton of Gibraltar Women who made her debut at the age of 67 years and 206 days in 2024.
