Team India are on the verge of another heartbreak as opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was looking in discomfort during the practice session. With Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill already missing the first game, India will be in huge trouble if Jaiswal sustains an injury before the start of the innings. The 22-year-old is an incredible batter who plays shots quite confidently, and a player like him is much needed on the Australian land to attack the bowlers.
If we look at Jaiswal's records, he has been a consistent run scorer for the team in the top order. Even against New Zealand, he was one of the best batters in the team who played alongside all the senior players and stood there like a wall while all the other threw their wickets. Having him in the team is more of a morale boost in the top order.
The team management has a tough job to do in terms of filling up the playing XI in the absence of Gill and Rohit. Also, Jasprit Bumrah is going to lead the team in the first Test match instead of Rohit, who is missing out on the test due to personal reasons. Rohit will return from the second Test match and take over the captaincy.
Ravi Shastri backs Yashasvi Jaiswal to achieve greatness in Australia
Ravi Shastri, India's former head coach, backed Jaiswal as a 'world-class' player who will achieve greatness in Australia. He is one of the best in the team and will score tons of runs in the series as per the former head coach. He has mentored the 22-year-old and knows his capabilities.
"I think he’ll be a better player when he leaves Australian shores. Already he’s world-class. You saw what he did against England (and) just the freedom with which he plays. I think once he adapts to these conditions, it’s not going to be easy to adjust in Perth with that bounce, no matter how talented you are," Shastri said about Jaiswal at a Fox Cricket event.
