Former Indian spinner Amit Mishra was recently a guest on the ‘Lallantop’ show. The 42-year-old spoke on a variety of topics, and one of them included Indian skipper Rohit Sharma. Mishra was asked about Rohit’s spot in the Test team after his woeful run of form, which saw the Indian skipper opt out of the Sydney Test.
The host asked the veteran spinner if Rohit should retire from the Test format. Replying to this, Amit Mishra said, “He didn’t start his cricketing career asking us. Whatever pressure he has endured, no one stood by him. We don’t know the amount of pressure he went through. The day any cricketer or sportsman for that matter feels he isn’t able to cope up, he will walk away”

When questioned by the host that it will be the selectors who make the call over Rohit’s Test future. Amit Mishra said, “What does Rohit have to do with selection or selectors for that matter? You don’t select him, it’s okay. At the end of the day it’s the choice left to the selectors”.
Amit Mishra slams reports of Rohit Sharma using PR
Former India spin bowler Amit Mishra was then asked if the 37-year-old deserves a spot in the Test side, to which the 42-year-old said, “I think so, name a better player than him?”. The hosts then asked again if Rohit is a Test player and said that the 37-year-old isn’t able to handle pressure. This is when Mishra said, “I agree he isn’t able to take pressure, but who else can absorb that pressure?
During the course of the conversation, Mishra was asked if Rohit can't take pressure, new faces have to be given a chance. The veteran star said, “Yes, we should! And they are being given. New players are being included whenever there is an opportunity. If you look at it, name one captain who sat himself out of a Test match in Australia. Has anyone done it?”
Mishra was also asked about the allegations of Rohit Sharma using his PR game to keep his image. This is when the 42-year-old said, “Others could have done it too, why didn’t they? You just tell me one captain who has sat out of a game voluntarily. There are other captains who have failed, too. Personally, I feel it wasn’t a PR activity. He isn’t the sort of person to do that, and I know him very well”
