The highly anticipated ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 is just around the corner as the T20 extravaganza is set to kick off on June 1 in the West Indies and the USA. Some of the participating teams have also announced their squads for the World Cup. New Zealand were the first team to announce their squad.
Meanwhile, one of the major emerging teams in the world, Afghanistan, have also announced their 15-member squad on April 30. Their star spinner Rashid Khan will be leading the side on the biggest occasion. However, the 2022 T20 World Cup captain for Afghanistan, Hasmatullah Shahidi, isn’t part of the squad this time.
Interestingly, there are some young additions to the Afghan side as players like Nangyal Kharoti and Mohammad Ishaq have been included in the squad. Kharoti came into the limelight in March this year against Ireland where he took 5 wickets in 3 matches. On the other hand, Ishaq has been quite impressive behind the wickets and got the chance to be the backup wicketkeeper for his team.
Check out the full squad below:
Afghanistan's bowling department is looking quite impressive as they will be having their 3-star spinners Rashid, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Noor Ahmad in the squad. Apart from them, former skipper Mohammad Nabi can also be useful during the middle overs. The batting department also looks good with the likes of Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Zadran brothers and some all-rounders like Gulbadin Naib, Karim Janat and Azmatullah Omarzai. However, all the eyes will be on Rashid's captaincy as it'd be interesting to see if he will be able to use his international matches experience on the biggest stage of the game.
