Chennai Super Kings (CSK) clinched their revenge against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 53rd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. With a 28-run victory, CSK defeated the hosts after 1115 days. Finally, the men in yellow were able to break the curse and triumph over PBKS, a much-needed win for the team.

Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad's struggle with the toss continues as he loses it once again, pushing CSK to bat first. It was a below-average day for the batters as they managed to score just 167 runs in the first innings. Ravindra Jadeja scored 43 runs off 26 balls, Daryl Mitchell scored 30 runs off 19 balls, and Ruturaj scored 32 off 21 balls, helping the visitors reach a score of 160+. The PBKS bowlers bowled commendably, sending almost all the players back to the pavilion. Rahul Chahar and Harshal Patel claimed three wickets each.

In the second innings, the match became even more interesting as CSK bowlers turned into beasts. Tushar Deshpande's first over was terrific as he dismissed Johnny Bairstow and Rilee Rossouw in the second over of the innings. After that, the PBKS team's wickets fell like a pack of cards. However, Shashank Singh was brilliant with the bat as usual but couldn't help his team win the match this time.

'Everyone believed the wicket was slow...' - Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad on the pitch

The Dharmashala pitch is one pace-friendly and slow wicket; hence, 170-180 is a par score. Keeping this in mind, the CSK side tried pushing the scoring to 170 but failed to do so. Fortunately, the day was on their side as the PBKS team failed to chase the target of 168 runs.

"Everyone believed the wicket was slow. Even low bounce. Just that the start we got, we were thinking of pushing till 180-200. After losing wickets, thought 160-170 was a good score. Don't know what he's doing, but even in preseason he was clicking 150kph (on Simarjeet). He didn't get too much chances, but it's never too late," said Ruturaj Gaikwad at the post-match presentation.
