The T20 World Cup 2024 is set to start on June 2, in West Indies and the USA. Before the World Cup, England star all-rounder Ben Stokes dropped a bomb on April 2 by opting out of the tournament. While England's squad for the upcoming tournament hasn't been released yet, the news of Stokes came as a surprise for everyone.
Moreover, England's Test team captain opted himself out as he wanted to focus more on Test matches and the upcoming series. Since Stokes is one of the best all-rounders in England, his exclusion is a cause for worry for the England Cricket Board (ECB) as they have to find a perfect replacement for him.
Let's discuss the five English all-rounders who can replace Ben Stokes for the T20 World Cup 2024.
1. Jofra Archer
Even though Jofra Archer's inclusion in the T20 World Cup team is dicey, he's one of the best choices of England in place of Stokes. He's a world-class bowler and can bat occasionally if the situation demands. However, due to injury he was out of the IPL 2024 and his return isn't confirmed yet. Hence, if he gets fit, it will be a piece of good news for England ahead of the World Cup.
2. Sam Curran
Another replacement can be Sam Curran as he is currently playing extremely well in the IPL 2024. He is a batting all-rounder who can deliver slow balls and cutters well which might be beneficial in the West Indies and the US. The left-arm pacer can even bowl in the powerplay and even has the ability to provide early breakthroughs. In 219 matches he has around 211 wickets at an economy of 8.33. Thus, the Board might have an eye on him as well.
3. Liam Livingstone
Liam Livingstone is also a good option for England as he is quite experienced in T20 cricket. While being a batting all-rounder, Livingstone's bowling sometimes deceives the batters and makes it difficult for them to play. Known for his hard-hitting skills, he has some great batting capabilities which might be helpful for England in tough situations.
4. Chris Woakes
Woakes has been a part of the England side for quite a long time now and has proved his worth time and again. His strength lies in bowling while he can perfectly swing the bat whenever his team needs him. He's one of the most experienced players in England and is definitely a good choice for the upcoming World Cup. Apart from batting and bowling, he's a great fielder as well which is a plus point.
5. Chris Jordan
Chris Jordan has played nearly 355 T20 matches for England where he has taken 368 wickets and scored around 2135 runs. Moreover, his experience might come in handy in the West Indies as he has played an ample amount of cricket in his native place, Barbados. Apart from bowling, he's a useful lower-order batter who can strike the ball when the situation demands. Hence, he can also be a good replacement for Stokes.
