In what seems to be a shocking piece of news for the defending ODI World Champions, Australia skipper and star pacer Pat Cummins has also been ruled out of the Champions Trophy 2025. The news came as a big blow to the Aussie camp in their efforts to lift the Champions Trophy title for the third time.
Pat Cummins is still struggling with his ankle problem that he sustained during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India. He couldn’t recover in time, which has now made Australia think about his replacement in the upcoming prestigious cricket quadrennial in Pakistan and Dubai.
With that said, here we’ll discuss the three reasons why Australia will miss Pat Cummins in the Champions Trophy 2025 (CT 2025).

Captaincy
Apart from leaving an amazing impact as ‘Pat Cummins, the player’, he has also been outstanding with his outstanding leadership skills in ODI cricket. Cummins has captained the national side of Australia in 17 ODIs, winning 13 while losing only four. He has an amazing winning percentage of 76.47 to his name as a captain.
Cummins also led the Aussie side to win their historic sixth ODI World Cup title after winning the ODI World Cup 2023 in India. So, the brilliant ‘Cummins captaincy’ will be a major thing that Australia will miss during the ninth edition of the Champions Trophy.
Missing Key Pacer
Pat Cummins as a bowler has also been a vital cog in the wheel for Australia for the last couple of years, especially in ODI cricket. Since the conclusion of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, Cummins has bowled in 59 ODI innings, bowling 519.4 overs.
In these appearances, the full-time ODI and Test skipper has scalped 90 wickets with the ball, having an amazing economy rate of 5.14. He also has a five-wicket haul to his name as it was his best bowling performance in the last eight years.
The two-time Champions Trophy winners will also be missing the terrific pace-bowling services of Pat Cummins in the Champions Trophy 2025.
Batting in the lower order
Apart from troubling the opponent batters with his sensational bowling, the Aussie skipper Pat Cummins has also impressed everyone with his batting in very crucial situations for Australia. He has contributed some important runs in must-win matches while batting lower down the order.
One of his memorable performances with the bat came during Australia’s historic win against Afghanistan in the ODI World Cup 2023 when Glenn Maxwell smashed an unforgettable double century. This double century for Maxwell could only be possible with the gritty support he got from Pat Cummins at the other end.
