The San Antonio Spurs' towering sensation Victor Wembanyama has revealed that he's a huge admirer of Caitlin Clark, the Indiana Fever star and fellow Rookie of the Year. In a viral video released on Friday, the 7'4" NBA rookie was asked which WNBA player has been an inspiration to him. His straightforward answer was Caitlin Clark, the dynamic guard who has been making waves in women’s basketball.

“When she was in college, she was the only player that I was really in awe of,” Wembanyama said. He added that regardless of gender, Clark stood out in the entire landscape of college basketball. “Men’s and women’s college basketball combined, she’s probably the most impressive I’ve seen.”

Here is the video:

Wembanyama’s admiration comes as no surprise given Clark's incredible impact on the court. Both Wembanyama and Clark had stellar seasons after being selected as the No. 1 overall picks in 2023, with each dominating their respective leagues and securing Rookie of the Year titles. Wembanyama put up a remarkable 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 3.6 blocks per game, while Clark's playmaking and scoring prowess saw her average 19.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 8.4 assists per game.

Caitlin Clark remains in controversy!

The respect between these two young stars is fitting. Both have rapidly become the faces of their sports, capturing the attention of fans around the world. While Wembanyama's comments show his appreciation for Clark's skill and influence, Clark has had to deal with her challenges within the WNBA.

Despite her exceptional performance, she was denied a unanimous Rookie of the Year vote, a fact that underscores the complexity of recognition in women's sports. Meanwhile, Clark also earned a lot of admiration and backing from some legends of the WNBA including Sue Bird. Bird recently backed Clark saying that she has been used as a pawn to bring racism in the league.
