Tyler Marsh hired as new head coach of Angel Reese's Chicago Sky

A major factor in the Chicago Sky's successful 2024 season was the rise of rookie center Angel Reese. They failed to make it to the postseason, though, and after just one season with Chicago, the club fired head coach Teresa Weatherspoon. Considering that the Sky had only employed Weatherspoon for a year, her dismissal was somewhat unexpected. But after dismissing Weatherspoon, the squad needed to find a new head coach, and it appears they have done it. 

According to reports that surfaced on Saturday afternoon, Chicago had made Tyler Marsh, an assistant with the Las Vegas Aces, their top target for the position. Shortly after that, it was revealed that Marsh had indeed been appointed as the team's new head coach, succeeding Weatherspoon. Tyler Marsh worked as an assistant coach and player development manager for the Indiana Pacers for two years before joining the Aces in 2022. He has also played for a couple of NBA G League clubs, including the Iowa Energy and Fort Wayne Mad Ants, as well as the Toronto Raptors. 

Having worked with Aces' coaching staff for the past three seasons, Marsh has firsthand experience with the inner workings of one of the top teams in the league. Marsh is hoped to bring some of Chicago Sky's success to Chicago. Along with his duties as an assistant coach, Marsh was in charge of player development, assisting athletes like Jackie Young and A'ja Wilson in improving as players.

Chicago Sky failed to book thier spot in WNBA playoffs

The Sky, who narrowly missed out on the playoffs last season, will be looking for Marsh to help their youthful core, led by Angel Reese, become a reliable contender. They may get to the top of the league very fast if he can do it. This is a significant shift for Chicago, and they hope it will pay off and enable them to make significant progress in the 2025 campaign. Since the transfer is official, Marsh will want to start working right away, therefore he'll probably start working with his new team right away.
