Michael Jordan decided to come out of retirement following the 9/11 attacks. The star player retired by then but decided to sign a 2-year contract with the Washington Wizards. It made the headlines after everything in the country had to suffer in its dark days in 2001. As a result, Jordan did not hold any press conferences and announced his comeback with a simple statement.

"I am returning as a player to the game I love," said Michael Jordan. On October 30th, Jordan played his first match on his return to action. He took on the New York Knicks at the Madison Square Garden. The then US President George W Bush threw the first pitch wearing a bulletproof vest.

When asked on his reaction to the attacks, the star player claimed that he had no reaction. Bush tried to pump the crowd with his speech. He claimed that they are all united as citizens of the country. He was proud of the freedom and vowed to prevail. George asked the citizens to show up at public meetings and NBA games.

Michael Jordan's message for 9/11 victims and their families

The match between the Washington Wizards and the Knicks did not live up to the expectations. While it was a great match, Jordan was nowhere close to his best. The Knicks won the match 93-91. After the match, Michael was asked about his opinion on the 9/11 attacks.

The star player said that he was energized to return to the court but was saddened to witness the tragic attacks. He claimed that his heart went to the lives of the families and the victims of the deadly attacks. The NBA star mentioned it to be the reason behind not attending media conferences.

"Although I am energized by my impending return to the court, I am deeply saddened by the recent tragic events and my heart goes out to the victims and their families. Out of deep respect for them, I will not participate in media interviews before the start of training camp," said Jordan.
