The NBA penalized the Philadelphia 76ers $100,000 on Friday for breaking injury reporting regulations by first declaring Joel Embiid as out for a game in which he later participated. On Tuesday Joel Embiid returned to the Philadelphia 76ers team after missing 29 matches due to surgery on their left knee. As he returned, he contributed in the Philadelphia 76ers win over Oklahoma City Thunder 109-105.

This happened after the Philadelphia 76ers labeled him as out in their initial injury report. He was upgraded to doubtful by late afternoon. Teams must disclose the status of any players whose participation may be affected by injury by 5 p.m. local time the day before a game unless they are playing back-to-backs. The injury report is updated throughout the day.

According to PINKVILLA, the NBA said, "The 76ers wrongly listed Embiid as 'out' in their initial injury report, and he went on to play in the game. We've factored in the 76ers' past fines for breaking injury reporting rules in the fine."

Philadelphia 76ers received fine for second time

In that match, Joel Embiid played for less than 30 minutes but scored 24 points marking his comeback from a meniscus injury that he had got earlier in the season. For Philadelphia 76ers this is the second time they have been fined for giving false injury reports. In February Philadelphia 76ers had to pay a $75,000 fine for not listing Joel Embiid on the injury list. Even though he was pulled out at the last minute due to a knee injury sustained during a game against the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Sixers came from behind to upset the Thunder 109-105. Embiid had a major impact, scoring 24 points, seven assists, and six rebounds in the game.
