Memphis Grizzlies retires Marc Gasol's jersey after Philadelphia 76ers game

Memphis Grizzlies decided to retire Marc Gasol's jersey. Gasol, 39, last played in the NBA in the 2020-21 season. The Memphis Grizzlies retired Marc Gasol's No. 33 jersey at FedExForum on Saturday night.

Memphis Grizzlies decided to retire Marc Gasol's jersey. Gasol, 39, last played in the NBA in the 2020-21 season but has been active with Basquet Girona, a team he formed in his home country of Spain. Former teammates Zach Randolph, Tony Allen, and Mike Conley will attend Gasol's jersey retirement event. The Memphis Grizzlies retired Marc Gasol's No. 33 jersey at FedExForum on Saturday night.

The dynamic trio led the Memphis Grizzlies through one of their most successful eras, from 2010 to 2017, which included a record 56-win season, a Western Conference finals trip, and consistently fearsome defences year after year.

All four members of the "Core Four" spent at least seven seasons with the Grizzlies. Memphis advanced to the playoffs in each of these years, winning four playoff series over that time.

Marc Gasol played 891 games out of which he started 866. His average was 14.0 points, 7.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.4 blocks per game.

Personal achievement of Marco Gasol 

On 13th January 2019 in a game against Los Angeles Clippers scored 42 points career high-points while playing for Memphis Grizzlies. In the 2014/15 NBA season he made it to the All-NBA first team. Later in the 2018/19 season he went to Toronto Raptors and won his first NBA title. He ended his career with the Los Angeles Lakers. In the 2012/13 NBA season he won the NBA Defensive Player of the Year award. So far he has won three awards to his name.

In the Olympics 2008 and 2012, he played for Spain along with his brother Pau Gasol who is a Hall of Famer. Before announcing their retirement from international play in the Tokyo Olympics 2021 they both won silver medals. 

Gasol becomes the second player in team history to have his jersey number retired, following Zach Randolph, who retired No. 50 on December 11, 2021.
