Newly minted Dallas Maverick Klay Thompson is enjoying the lighter side of his recent move from the Golden State Warriors. The star guard has been engaging with the humorous memes circulating on social media, particularly a meme that playfully compares him to a character in the 2004 dance film "You Got Served."

The meme, shared by the Instagram page stoicarchives humorously depicts him as Sonny, a character who switches dance crews due to dissatisfaction with his pay. Thompson shared this meme on his Instagram stories. The meme imagines a dance battle featuring Steph Curry and Draymond Green against Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, and Thompson's Sonny. Highlighting the humour, Thompson captioned the post with, "I'm crying! Sonny switched up quickly!"

Here is the Instagram story:

This playful engagement with his new reality shows a lighter side of Thompson, who has always been known for his laid-back demeanour and love for good-natured fun. The comparison to Sonny is particularly amusing given the narrative in "You Got Served," where Sonny's defection leads to significant consequences for his former team. In Thompson's case, his departure from the Warriors marks the end of an era but is taken in stride with a sense of humour.

Klay Thompson’s illustrious career at GSW

Thompson’s switch to the Mavericks ends his illustrious tenure with the Warriors, where he made a significant impact. Over his time in Golden State, he averaged 19.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game, earning five All-Star selections and winning four NBA championships.

Despite a dip in performance during the 2023-24 season, where he averaged 17.9 points and a 3-point shooting percentage of 38.7%—his second-lowest—Thompson remains a potent player and a beloved figure in the NBA.

Reflecting on his time with the Golden State Warriors, Thompson expressed deep gratitude and affection for the Bay Area and the relationships he forged there. In a heartfelt Instagram post, he thanked the fans and emphasized that the friendships he made were the most cherished part of his journey.

“Oh Bay Area, there are not enough words and images to convey how I feel about y'all. From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for some of the best times of my life. It was such an honour to put that Dubs jersey on from day one,” Thompson wrote.
