Former Indian basketball player Bobit Mathew was found dead in Kannur on Sunday. His untimely demise left the Basketball fraternity in shock.

Former Indian basketball player Bobit Mathew was found dead in Kannur on Sunday. His untimely demise left the Basketball fraternity in shock as fans and his former colleagues mourned.  Notably, Bobit has been phenomenal as Kerla’s basketball captain and has left a great legacy.

Bobit Mathey was born and brought up in Mecca of Basketball, Kannur. He made his mark in the game becoming one of the most iconic stars on a national level. The year 2000 played a key role in his career as he represented India in the Junior Asian Championship in Malaysia.

He outshined many players during the tournament and earned a lot of recognition around the country. His amazing form continued in the National senior tournament as he led Kerala to the runner-up position that year. Bobit also won the prestigious PS Viswappan Gold Medal for his heroics in the national tournament.

Bobit Mathew inspired many youngsters! 

Bobit Mathew led and represented Kerala in national and regional tournaments for more than seven years and his on-court antics made him one of the greatest to represent the team. His beloved nature and sense of humour also made him the talk of the town among fans, teammates and experts.

However, his early demise has left a void in India’s growing basketball fraternity. Bobit has inspired many young aspiring Basketball players with his skills and towering presence. His journey from Sports Authority of India’s centre in Kozhikode to one of the biggest basketball stars of his time Bobit came a long way and led Kerala to new heights.

His untimely demise has left his family, friends and fans in shock as they can’t believe that their man left so soon. It’s worth noting that The CheruPushpa Church in Chandanakampara will host Bobit Mathew’s burial ceremony which will be the last opportunity for his knowns to pay him a last tribute.
