On Friday just after the Game 4 of the NBA Finals series between Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks. Dallas Mavericks defeated the Boston Celtics by 122-84. Charles Barkley, TNT broadcaster has made a big announcement after Game 4. Charles Barkley stated that he is going to retire from TV after the 2024/25 NBA season.

Barkley made the news with little warning and a lot of emotion, revealing that he had considered leaving TNT for other networks owing to Warner Bros. Discovery's potential loss of NBA rights after next year, but eventually decided he was ready to give up the microphone after one season. The Hall of Fame player has spent the previous 24 years working as a studio commentator for TNT, which may lose the rights to broadcast the NBA after next season.

According to AP News, “There’s been a lot of noise around our network the last few months and I just want to say I’ve talked to all the other networks, but I ain’t going nowhere other than TNT,” Barkley said while working on NBA TV’s NBA Finals postgame show.

Charles Barkly unhappy with the takeover

The next season was already shaping up to be the end of an era for TNT, with the network on the cusp of losing its NBA package to NBC. TNT may still try to match NBC's proposal or negotiate a lesser contract with the league, but WBD president David Zaslav has indicated that the network will instead pursue lower-cost partnerships in other sports, such as college football and tennis.

Charles Barkley has been dissatisfied with the entire process and has expressed his discontent, referring to his company's officials as "clowns" and lamenting what the shift would mean for his "Inside the NBA" programme. He had the option to opt out of his arrangement with TNT if the network lost NBA rights, and he has even suggested that his production business might take over "Inside the NBA."
