Los Angeles Lakers now have no head coach or coaching staff after firing Darvin Ham and his staff following a first-round loss to the Denver Nuggets in the NBA Playoffs. While the hostility of Ham appeared to be rising in the Lakers locker room, Anthony Davis' apparent dissatisfaction with the coach may have played a significant role in his firing.
Los Angeles Lakers finished 90-74 throughout Darvin Ham's two seasons. The Denver Nuggets swept Los Angeles in the Western Conference Finals of 2023. The Nuggets defeated the Lakers in the first round of this year's playoffs.
According to YARDBARKER, “When they chose to fire Darvin Ham, I was told that one of the many, many considerations was that it was pretty evident that AD was not on board anymore with Darvin,” Amick said on The Rich Eisen Show. “And they know, like everybody else, that AD has a history of having asked for trades in the past.
Anthony Davis averaged 25.2 points, 12.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.1 steals, and 2.2 blocks under Ham, who lost the locker room in December when he benched D'Angelo Russell, Austin Reaves, and Rui Hachimura in favor of LeBron James, Taurean Prince, Jarred Vanderbilt, Cam Reddish, and Davis against the Oklahoma City Thunder on December 23, according to multiple sources.
Anthony Davis contract with LA Lakers has three years left
The Lakers have been connected to JJ Redick, Sam Cassell, James Borrego, David Adelman, Micah Nori, and Chris Quinn. Most NBA observers expect Los Angeles to employ Redick, who has a close connection with LeBron.
From 2019 to 2020 LeBron James and Davis were teammates. The Lakers came in first in the 2021 postseason, lost in the 2022 postseason, advanced to the 2023 Western Conference Finals, and were eliminated in the first round of the current postseason. They also took home the 2020 championship.
In comparison to his 2019 request, Davis would have very little negotiating power if he were to seek a trade. Davis's contract still has over $150 million and at least three years left on it. He might become a free agent as early as 2027.
