Jonathan Wheatley, a veteran of the Formula 1 world, is poised to take on a new challenge as the Team Principal of the Audi F1 Team. This marks a significant transition from his longstanding role at Red Bull Racing.

Wheatley has been a cornerstone of Red Bull Racing’s success over the past 18 years. His expertise and leadership were instrumental in securing 13 World Championships, comprising six Constructors' and seven Drivers' titles at Red Bull. His departure from the squad signals the end of an era for the team.

Notably, Wheatley started his career first as Team Manager at Red Bull. Later he changed his role as Sporting Director. He has been phenomenal with his strategies and skills for the team. His determination was seen from the Pit wall over time.

Christian Horner praised Red Bull

Red Bull's Team Principal Christian Horner acknowledged Wheatley’s substantial contributions to the team’s history. He emphasized that his impact will be remembered as a key part of their legacy. Wheatley’s departure comes at a time of considerable change within the team, with other notable figures, such as design legend Adrian Newey, also stepping down after nearly two decades.

Wheatley will remain with Red Bull until the end of the 2024 season, after which he will take a period of gardening leave before fully transitioning to his new role with Audi in 2025. His move to Audi comes as the team undergoes a significant restructuring, particularly following the exit of Audi CEO Andreas Seidl and executive Oliver Hoffman from the project.

Audi has appointed former Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto as their Chief Operating Officer and Chief Technical Officer, who will oversee operations and technical matters at Audi's headquarters in Hinwil, Switzerland. Wheatley will report directly to Binotto, forming a leadership duo that is expected to drive Audi’s ambitions in the competitive world of Formula 1.
