In the high-octane world of Formula 1, few rivalries have captivated fans as much as the one between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen. The 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix provided yet another dramatic chapter in their intense and often controversial battle. The crash between the two titans at the Hungaroring left fans on the edge of their seats and had significant implications for the race.

The incident occurred on Lap 63 and added another chapter to their intense rivalry, drawing significant attention and sparking discussions among fans and pundits alike. The tension reached a boiling point when Max Verstappen, who had been trailing Hamilton, made a daring move to overtake him on the home straight leading into Turn 1.

Here is the video:

However, in his eagerness to gain an advantage, Verstappen carried too much speed into the corner, causing him to lock up under braking. As a result, his rear-left tyre collided with Hamilton’s front right, tipping Verstappen’s car into the air briefly and sending shockwaves through the crowd.

Max Verstappen faces huge backlash

This collision proved costly for Max Verstappen, who not only lost valuable time but also his position to Charles Leclerc. The Dutchman found himself in a battle for fifth place with the second Ferrari of Carlos Sainz. Meanwhile, Hamilton capitalized on the situation to secure his 200th career podium, finishing behind Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris.

The incident didn’t go unnoticed by the race stewards. Verstappen was summoned to appear before them later in the evening to explain his actions. This was not the first time he found himself under scrutiny during the race.

Earlier, he had been investigated for going wide at Turn 1 on the opening lap, which allowed him to jump ahead of Norris. However, by relinquishing the position back to the Briton, Verstappen managed to avoid any penalties at that moment.

The clash between these two titans of Formula 1 at the Hungarian Grand Prix 2024 serves as a stark reminder of the high stakes and intense rivalries that define the sport. As the season progresses, fans can only anticipate more thrilling and contentious moments between Verstappen and Hamilton.
