As the 2024 Formula 1 season enters its second half, anticipation builds for the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort. With Red Bull's Max Verstappen holding a significant lead of 78 points in the Drivers' standings other teams like McLaren and their star driver, Lando Norris, are gearing up to challenge the reigning champion.

However, unpredictable weather conditions at Zandvoort could play a critical role in shaping the race weekend. The initial moments of the first 60-minute practice session at Zandvoort provided a glimpse of the challenges that drivers and teams might face.

The session began under extremely wet conditions, with strong winds adding to the difficulty. Alpine’s Pierre Gasly, who will be partnering with Jack Doohan next season, was the first to brave the track. Haas' Kevin Magnussen followed suit, but it was his teammate, Nico Hulkenberg, who faced the most dramatic moment of the session.

Here is the video:

Hulkenberg found himself in trouble at Turn 10, where he ran wide and slid off the track, skidding through the gravel. Despite the scare, the German driver managed to keep his car under control and continued on the track.

What is the weather prediction?

Unfortunately, Nico Hulkenberg's troubles didn't end there. Shortly after, he found himself in the gravel again, this time at Turn 1. The German locked up his front right tyre, out-braked himself, and ran off the track. This marked his third off-track incident during the session, leading to growing concerns about potential issues with his car's braking system.

As the race approaches, the focus will be on how drivers adapt to these conditions and whether anyone can disrupt Verstappen’s dominance. Norris, in particular, will be closely watched as McLaren looks to mount a challenge against Red Bull.

As Zandvoort promises a weekend full of twists and turns, the question remains: can Lando Norris or any other driver spoil Verstappen’s party, or will the Dutchman continue his march towards the championship? The opening practice session has already set the stage for a thrilling and unpredictable Dutch Grand Prix.
