The 2024 United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas started with plenty of drama. Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton suffered a high-speed crash, forcing the deployment of the safety car. This incident abruptly ended Hamilton's race after a promising start, leaving fans and commentators alike stunned.

The race kicked off with Charles Leclerc taking the lead, as Lando Norris, who started from pole position, and Max Verstappen fought for positions into Turn 1. Meanwhile, Carlos Sainz capitalized on the chaos ahead, attacking Verstappen for second place after the Dutchman ran wide. Norris, struggling in the early stages, dropped to fourth place.

While the battle raged at the front, Hamilton, starting from a distant 17th position, displayed his legendary driving skills, quickly climbing the order to 12th place. His rise through the pack had many hopefuls that the British driver could pull off a spectacular recovery. But disaster struck at Turn 19.

Here is the video:

As Hamilton pushed hard to close the gap, his car lost control and spun off the track, sending him straight into the gravel. This unfortunate incident marked the end of his race, and the sight of the Briton jumping out of his car confirmed the worst. The safety car was called out immediately, the first time since the Canadian Grand Prix, to neutralize the race while marshals dealt with the aftermath of Hamilton’s crash.

The crash bore eerie similarities to teammate George Russell's spin the previous day, making it a rare but costly error for Hamilton. It also left a bittersweet taste for the Mercedes camp, as they saw a prime chance for points slip away after such a strong opening from Hamilton.

The field continued behind the safety car, while Hamilton’s dramatic exit became a major talking point of the race. As the championship battle heated up between Norris and Verstappen, Hamilton’s crash was a harsh reminder of how quickly fortunes can change in Formula 1.
