Indian Formula 2 driver Kush Maini delivered a commendable performance in the Hungarian Formula 2 Sprint Race, securing a solid P2 and demonstrating his skill and determination on the track. The race, held under cooler temperatures compared to Friday’s qualifying, saw a mix of tyre strategies among the drivers, with Maini opting for the Hard compound.

Starting from the front row alongside pole-sitter Richard Verschoor, Maini made an impressive start. Despite an early challenge from Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who charged ahead on Soft tyres to take second place at Turn 2, Maini remained composed. Antonelli's early surge put him in the lead by Lap 4, but it was clear that the race dynamics would shift as the Hard tyre runners began to find their rhythm.

Here is the celebration video:

By Lap 5, Maini was closing in on Verschoor, setting up a thrilling battle for the podium positions. As the race progressed, Maini’s consistency paid off. On Lap 13, he had created a significant gap from the third-placed Victor Martins, providing him with some breathing room. Maini’s strategic drive was evident as he managed his tyres and pace effectively, allowing him to capitalize on the mistakes of others.

Richard Verschoor clinches another win

The pivotal moment came on Lap 16 when Kimi Antonelli, struggling to maintain his lead, ran wide and then locked up at Turn 1, opening the door for both Verschoor and Maini to pass. This manoeuvre placed Maini firmly in second position, where he continued to push, ensuring he stayed ahead of the chasing pack.

While Verschoor pulled away to secure his fourth Formula 2 victory, Maini maintained his position, crossing the line to take a well-deserved second place. Meanwhile, in the broader context of the championship, Maini's strong finish in Budapest moved him to eighth in the standings with 66 points, significantly ahead of his teammate.
