Aston Martin's seasoned driver, Fernando Alonso, experienced a wave of frustration during the final minutes of the Q3 session at the Hungarian Grand Prix qualifying on Saturday. The session saw two red flags, the first caused by Sergio Perez's crash at Turn 6 and the second by Yuki Tsunoda of VCARB, which severely disrupted Alonso's hot lap.

With just two and a half minutes remaining in the session, the FIA race stewards decided to red-flag the session due to the damage on the VCARB. Alonso, who was on a promising hot lap, saw his efforts dashed by the abrupt halt.

Here is the video:

The two-time world champion's disappointment was palpable as he confronted FIA officials during the driver weigh-ins in Parc ferme, a moment captured and widely shared on social media platform X. The video shows Alonso throwing his jacket and cap to the ground, clearly expressing his displeasure.

Fernando Alonso Criticizes FIA

Speaking with DAZN, Alonso did not mince his words regarding the FIA's decision-making. He criticized the timing of the red flag, stating, "The truth is that the FIA sometimes gets it right and sometimes they make gross mistakes. Today they had made one. They put out the red flag when I was in the last corner, which is surprising. There was an accident at Turn 8 [Turn 5]. Normally they always wait for the cars to complete the lap. It's the 'spoken norm.'"

Alonso further detailed the confusion that ensued in the pit lane. "When entering the pit lane, Lance Stroll and I were put into parc ferme. They closed the pit lane. They put us into parc ferme, we got out of the car, then they told us that Q3 was starting again. We went back to the car, they tightened our seatbelts, and we went to the garage. I had no more tyres, so I didn’t go out anymore."
