Oscar Piastri issues threat to teammate Lando Norris ahead of F1 2025 season

McLaren driver Oscar Piastri wants to become the new Formula 1 world champion in 2025. This is a big warning to his teammate Lando Norris who finished P2 in last year's drivers championship. McLaren is now the fastest car on the grid and the two drivers drive for them. This year everyone is predicting that it will be a McLaren vs Ferrari contest again.

The duo helped the team secure the Formula 1 constructors championship after 26 years. Lando Norris challenged Max Verstappen for the ultimate title but eventually failed because of his slow start. Oscar Piastri acted as the wingman for Lando in the second half of the 2024 season. But what changes this year is everything will start from zero. 

Piastri wants to be a world champion

Oscar Piastri wants to take advantage of having the fastest car and battle for the Formula 1 title. Piastri feels confident about himself, especially during the qualifying sessions where he lost time last season. The Australian driver said, “I do think that I can become world champion this year. I feel like 12 months ago I was going into the season still with some weaknesses that I wasn't particularly confident with. Through last season I addressed them and it's now just about addressing them every weekend.”

In 2024, Oscar Piastri was losing time during the qualifying sessions compared with his teammate Lando Norris. This year he has spent more time in the McLaren race simulator and identified areas of improvement. Spending more time in the F1 2025 car simulator also boosted his confidence.

Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were fierce competitors and in the 2024 season, both started racing each other during races. As the season went on, the McLaren leadership decided that Norris had the best chance of winning the title, so they made Oscar Piastri play the second fiddle. The Australian agreed to be a team man and helped Lando Norris by backing him up during races. On many occassions, he gave the Brit a free pass to take advantage of points to get closer to Max Verstappen.
