Unfortunate news has emerged from the BWT Alpine F1 team boss Team Principal Oliver Oakes has resigned from the team with immediate effect. Team advisor Flavio Briatore will take charge as their new team principal from the Imola Grand Prix.
The reasons for his resignation are unknown, but many speculate that Ollie was backing Jack Doohan for the rest of the season as the Alpine team wants Franco Colapinto to take over the seat from Doohan. The BWT Alpine team released a new statement.

Alpine Team Principal Oliver Oakes resigns
It read, “BWT Alpine Formula One team announces that Oliver Oakes has resigned from his role as Team Principal. The team has accepted his resignation with Immediate effect. As of today, Flavio Briatore will continue as executive Advisor and will also be covering the duties previously performed by Oliver Oakes. The team would like to thank Oliver for his efforts since he joined last summer and for his contribution in helping the team secure sixth place in the 2024 constructors’ championship. The team will not be making any further comment.”
The Alpine team is very strict in their driver rotation policy, and there has always been uncertainty around the driver's seat inside the Alpine team. Last year, Esteban Ocon was tracked near the Williams headquarters and was fired even before the last race in Abu Dhabi.
Briatore has mentioned that only race results will secure a driver. The French Formula 1 team had a French driver lineup last year. But after Ocon’s departure, Jack Doohan took over as the new driver. Oliver Oakes did a great job of bringing Alpine back to winning ways, securing a podium finish in last year's Brazilian Grand Prix.
Alpine also finished sixth in the constructors' championship. Many former drivers and commentators are slamming Alpine for that decision and criticising Briatore for pulling the team back to its old ways. We don't know the future of Oliver Oakes, but he will be back in F1 with some other team.
