Aprilia rider and 2024 MotoGP world champion, Jorge Martin suffers a huge blow ahead of the 2025 season start in Thailand. The Thailand Grand Prix at the Buriram International Circuit will kick off this year. Jorge Martin has moved to the Aprilia Factory Racing team from Prima Pramac after missing the opportunity to become a Ducati Factory rider. He and Marc Marquez were the two contenders, but the 6-time world champion impressed the Italians more with a GP23 engine bike while Martin used a GP24 bike.
Aprilia Racing is the strongest team on the grid next to Ducati and very soon they could be challengers for the world championship. He replaces his friend and fellow MotoGP rider Aleix Espargaro who just retired from MotoGP after the 2024 season. He played a big role in helping Martin win the world title by defending him from the Ducati riders Francesco Bagnaia and Enea Bastianini. With his help, Aprilia secured the deal signing Jorge Martin as their new rider. Now, Jorge Martin will not be there to race at the Opening race of the 2025 MotoGP world championship.
Jorge Martin Misses out 2025 opener
Martin suffered a huge injury during the pre-season testing session at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia. He had a high side during cornering and was thrown out of the bike. The Spanish rider landed heavily on his right hand and foot. He had surgery on his right hand and foot and came back to work last week.
Again he had an accident when training at the Menargues Karting circuit in Spain. This back-to-back injury has put him out of the Opening race in Thailand. He will undergo surgery again on his left hand where he had a triple fracture and his left foot. Jorge Martin is the defending champion and we don't know how long his recovery period will be as it will be decided only after the surgery. For now, he will be replaced by Aprilia test rider Lorenzo Savadori.
Aprilia released a statement regarding his accident and recovery. It read, “Jorge Martin suffered a complex fracture of the radius, some carpal bones on the left side and an ipsilateral calcaneal fracture during a training session. After a surgical consultation, it was decided to proceed with surgery, which will take place tomorrow at the Dexeus Clinic in Barcelona.”
