MotoGP decides to postpone debut race at Kazakhstan due to national emergency in the country

It comes after heavy rainfall floods the country impacting the daily routine of the local people. The situation has compelled thousands of residents to evacuate their homes.

In a shocking turn of events, MotoGP has postponed the eighth round of the ongoing racing season. The event scheduled to take place in Kazakhstan on June 16 has been delayed after the declaration of a national emergency in the country. 

It comes after heavy rainfall floods the country impacting the daily routine of the local people. The situation has compelled thousands of residents to evacuate their homes, prompting MotoGP to postpone the race to alleviate additional burdens.

In a media statement series confirmed the decision and prayed for the betterment of the situation. “Unprecedented weather conditions have led to flooding across Central Asia, causing a national emergency in Kazakhstan and displacing much of the population,” read a statement from the series.

“It would not be responsible for MotoGP to add any additional burden on the authorities or services as they work to help the tens of thousands of people affected across the country. Sokol International Racetrack will therefore not host MotoGP 2024 on the dates previously announced, and any further updates will be published once confirmed.” 

Delay continues for Kazakhstan! 

It’s worth noting that this is the second time in a row that a race has been postponed or cancelled in Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan was scheduled to debut in MotoGP this year, following the cancellation of the 2023 event due to track homologation works and logistical challenges.

Further speaking about the situation in the country central Asia MotoGP expressed their condolences and solidarity with the victims.

The statement read, “As our utmost priority, MotoGP sends our condolences and support to the people of Kazakhstan and all those affected by the flooding in Central Asia. We hope the nation, region and communities affected can recover as soon as possible.” Notably, the next round of MotoGP 2024 will take place in France on Sunday, May 12.
