MotoGP's anticipated return to India has been postponed once again, as the series organizers announced the cancellation of the Indian Grand Prix for 2024 due to operational concerns. However, fans can look forward to its revival in the earlier months of the 2025 season, promising an exciting comeback to the Buddh International Circuit in Noida.

Last year's Indian Grand Prix faced challenges with hot and humid weather conditions in September, prompting MotoGP riders to advocate for adjustments in race distances. Despite efforts to accommodate these concerns, the event encountered further hurdles, resulting in a shortened race by three laps.

In light of these challenges, MotoGP has postponed its return to India to early 2025, aligning with advice from the Government of Uttar Pradesh. This decision reflects the long-term commitment of the state to the sport, aiming for optimal weather conditions conducive to both spectators and riders alike. The rescheduled event in March 2025 promises an exhilarating race experience for fans eagerly awaiting MotoGP's return to Indian soil.

Kazakhstan set to get inaugural run

Meanwhile, the spotlight shifts to Kazakhstan, as the inaugural Kazakhstan Grand Prix gears up to take centre stage. Originally slated for June, the race faced a postponement due to severe weather conditions and flooding across central Asia, leading to the evacuation of nearly 117,000 people.

Now, rescheduled for the 20th to the 22nd of September, the Kazakhstan Grand Prix marks the opening race of the Asian leg of the 2024 MotoGP calendar. The cancellation of the Indian Grand Prix marks the second race to be called off in the 2024 MotoGP season, following the scrapping of Argentina's Grand Prix due to an economic crisis.

"The FIM, IRTA and Dorna Sports announce that the Indian Grand Prix will not take place in 2024, with MotoGP postponing its return to the country to early 2025 due to operational considerations," MotoGP said in a statement.

"Following advice from the Government of Uttar Pradesh as the state continues its long-term commitment to MotoGP, the sport will return to Buddh International Circuit in March 2025, when weather conditions are expected to be optimal for spectators and riders alike”, it further stated.
