The highly anticipated Formula 1 Mexican Grand Prix is set to return for another thrilling weekend at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City. Taking place from October 25 to October 27, the event will follow the United States Grand Prix and promises a weekend of intense racing action.

This circuit, named after the legendary Mexican drivers Ricardo and Pedro Rodriguez, has become a fixture in the F1 calendar since its reintroduction in 2015, after a 23-year hiatus. This year's race will follow the traditional F1 format, unlike the sprint format used in the United States.

One of the most interesting aspects of this weekend’s race is a peculiar change in the timetable—an extended FP2 session. Formula 1 will run an extended Free Practice 2 session. This 90-minute FP2 session, 30 minutes longer than usual, will allow Pirelli, F1’s official tyre supplier, to test prototypes for the 2025 season. This extra time will be crucial for gathering data, as Pirelli aims to ensure optimal tyre performance in the future.

Mexican Grand Prix Schedule (IST):

  • Practice 1: October 26, 00:00 - 01:00
  • Practice 2: October 26, 03:30 - 05:00
  • Practice 3: October 26, 23:00 - 00:00
  • Qualifying: October 27, 02:30 - 03:30
  • Race: October 28, 01:30

Mexican Grand Prix Circuit details

With its 4.304-kilometre length and 71 laps, the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit is a unique challenge for drivers. It boasts smooth tarmac, which typically leads to low tyre degradation, making strategy key to success. Given the limited overtaking opportunities, track position and tyre choices will play a pivotal role in determining who comes out on top.

One of the most iconic sections of the track is the stadium area, which replaces half of the once infamous Peraltada corner. This area packs thousands of passionate fans, creating an electrifying atmosphere that is unique to the Mexico City Grand Prix.

Previous Winners and Expectations

The current lap record for the circuit stands at 1:17.774, set in 2021. Unsurprisingly, Max Verstappen has dominated the Mexico City Grand Prix in recent years, clinching victory in 2021, 2022, and 2023. The Dutchman will once again be the favourite this year, with Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc, expected to provide stiff competition.
