Tsunoda was been with the team since the 2021 Formula 1 season, and many thought he would be the next Red Bull driver after Sergio Perez. But Christian Horner and Helmut Marko thought the other way and decided to go with young Liam Lawson, who had just come onto the team. They believed he had more skills and the ability to handle pressure better than Tsunoda. However, it was the opposite of what they thought as Liam Lawson struggled too much with the RB21 car and had a drastic difference in results compared with Max Verstappen.

He crashed his car at the Australian Grand Prix and finished outside the points table in the chinese GP. This was not the desired result from Liam, and the management thought of replacing him with Tsunoda, who is in the form of his life according to Marko. From the 2025 Japanese Grand Prix, Yuki Tsunoda will take the steering wheel from Liam and become the new teammate of Max Verstappen. The reigning world champion is also unhappy with Red Bull’s decision, and he even liked a post supporting Lawson.

Lawson's emotional post

Liam Lawson said, “Being a Red Bull Racing driver has been my dream since I was a kid; it’s what I’ve worked towards my whole life. It’s tough, but I’m grateful for everything that’s brought me to this point. To every one of you who’s stood by me, thank you for all the support; it means the world.” He also thanked his former team, VCARB, for their warm welcome. Lawson added, “Thank you, Visa Cash App Racing Bulls, for the warm welcome. I’m excited and ready to go to work at one of my favourite places.”
