Former world champion Lewis Hamilton remembers one big promise made by Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicalli, and that was a big promise. The British driver was one of the most celebrated athletes in the world, and he wanted one big race to happen before his retirement.
Formula 1 has over the years expanded its wings to many continents and countries and is still in huge demand. But F1 is missing one big continent, and Hamilton wants to fulfil that before he retires from the sport. He calls it his ‘Real Dream’. The Ferrari driver wants the African Grand Prix to happen and wishes to participate in the race.
When Formula 1 planned to expand to many new countries in Asia and Europe, Lewis questioned the leadership of avoiding the African continent. Hamilton also did everything from his side by bringing the African Motorsport organisers, sponsors, and race venues in Rwanda, South Africa, to host the African Grand Prix. He also spoke with Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicalli regarding the African GP.

'He Promised me'- Hamilton
Lewis said, “Domenicalli promised me a GP in Africa before my retirement. I really hope that Stefano doesn't leave because he was fundamental for the changes and progress the sport is making. I talked a lot with him about the race in Africa, and he promised me that he would make sure to do it before I leave, so it's important. I really hope Stefano doesn't resign because he was fantastic and he knows the sport like no one else.”

Out of all the other continents in the world, Africa remains the one and only continent without any races. There is also a circuit in South Africa called 'Kylami' that has enough infrastructure to host the African Grand Prix. Rwanda, which recently hosted the FIA awards ceremony, also showed interest in hosting the African Continents F1 race.
Lewis Hamilton will turn 40 next month, and there is still little left in his tank before he retires. So before that, his dream of racing at least once on the African continent is getting delayed. The South African sports minister recently thanked Lewis Hamilton for proposing the Kylami circuit as the venue for the African GP.
