The FIA, the governing body of Formula 1, approved the most essential feature every driver has dreamed of in Formula 1 for a long time. The new feature is called the 'Driver cooling kit,' which will help the drivers tackle extreme heat during the race weekend.
In last year's 2023 Qatar Grand Prix, most teams and drivers complained to the FIA that it was the most difficult conditions they have worked in their entire Formula 1 season. Many drivers suffered heat exhaustion after the chequered flag. This year, the Qatar 2024 Grand Prix is moved to the year-end to tackle the heat conditions.
First time in Formula 1 history
The FIA and many Formula 1 teams have researched to improve the venting and cooling of drivers in these circumstances. Now, the FIA has come up with an idea that doesn't need any AC unit to be fitted into the car. The System will only be allowed during extreme heat conditions and with some allowed weight increase. The new system will help the athletes perform at their best even during extreme heat conditions.
Last year, Qatar Grand Prix was the worst of all as the drivers and teams faced the worst heat in the entire year. Lance Stroll lost consciousness while driving and Esteban Ocon faced nausea mid of the race. These kinds of incidents are very dangerous for the drivers and it could lead to huge accidents.

During this year's Singapore Weekend, many drivers faced exhaustion and were unable to walk after the race. Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell faced dehydration issues after the race. The FIA has taken these issues into huge consideration and came up with the new cooling kit system for the drivers.
