Aston Martin’s hopes for Max Verstappen are still alive and strong, as Fernando Alonso’s age could open the doors for the Dutchman after the 2026 season. The four-time world champion has a contract with Red Bull until the 2028 season. Max Verstappen was linked with Mercedes and Aston Martin, but the Dutch driver clearly stated that he has no plans to leave Red Bull.

However, the team's form will be a significant issue for him, as they have gone down to become the third fastest team on the grid, behind McLaren and Ferrari. If not Verstappen, then Red Bull would have definitely lost the driver's title last year. So, if their poor form continues this year, then Max would need to think of his future in the team. Red Bull is yet to find the issue in their car's design and chassis, as upgrades are not working.

Jos Verstappen wasn’t happy with the team's progress and felt the team was nose-diving. He also feels many key personnel leaving the team is a huge loss, including head of design Adrian Newey. The British race car designer's new job at Aston Martin as the managing technical partner opens the door for Max VerstappenNewey played a huge part in Verstappen’s success, along with Honda. Both of them joining Aston Martin could make the 4-time world champion think about his future in the team. Aston Martin has Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll as their drivers.

Alonso's age is a huge factor for Max Verstappen

The two-time world champion Alonso wants to win his third F1 title before the 2026 season, as he made it clear that he has no idea to continue in F1 beyond that year. Though he has the speed and hunger for winning, he is too old for Formula 1, and Max Verstappen will be the perfect replacement for the great driver in 2027.

If Max doesn't have a competent car at Red Bull, he can move to a new team, breaking the contract. Red Bull chief Helmut Marko also has concerns regarding the car's performance. He said, “We have to give him (Max) a car with which he is able to win on his own.” The veteran added, “It can be one to two-tenths of a second slower than others, but unlike our car last year, it has to be competitive over the whole season and on every track. If we don't succeed, there is no reason for Max to stay with us. You have to be realistic about that.”
