Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso is the most experienced driver on the grid this season. Two-time World Champion is having an on-and-off season as he has struggled a lot. In the recently concluded Imola GP Alonso finished 19th and has been in a lot of trouble.
However, after a poor performance at Imola Alonso is now bidding to get back on track. While speaking with the media he said that he would work on improving his performance on Saturday. He said, “We need to wait and see all the data that we gathered today and ask the team what they saw that was different between the two cars.”
“We opted to set up different in my car and, yeah, let’s see if we found a direction for the next few races. It was a tough weekend, obviously qualifying dictates everything here. It will be the same in Monaco, so we need to do that perfect Saturday that makes things easier for Sunday.”
“It’s frustrating”, says Fernando Alonso
Further speaking about the upcoming Monaco GP Alonso said that Imola was a frustrating race but he is keen to get back on track. He said, “Yeah, that kind of weekend. It’s a little bit frustrating that, in the race, you know more or less what is going to happen.”
“You hope for some Safety Cars or red flags or something that can mix a little bit the race. But today, as usual when we start at the back, zero, the most boring race ever. We just completed the race.”
Lance Stroll had a more successful day, starting from P13 on the grid. He made the most of an extended opening stint and advanced through the field to finish in P9, earning two points. “We were hoping for a Safety Car and so we were staying out a very long time, and then at the end it was fun to pass some guys,” the Canadian commented afterwards.
When asked if the team is making headway with their new package, Stroll responded, "I believe so, I hope so. We're not as competitive as we want to be at the moment, and we need to keep pushing forward."
