The 2025 Formula 1 Canadian GP started with Max Verstappen and George Russell fighting for the pole position. Since last year's incident at the Lusail Grand Prix, their rivalry has gone to the next level. It was evident even before the race start as Max and George positioned themselves towards each other.

Incredible race start for Russell

But Russell did a great job defending himself against Max Verstappen, who was known for his dive bombs at the opening lap. Antonelli also had a great start as he overtook Piastri in turn 3 exit and took the third position. The Medium tyres used by the drivers didn't have great pace, as most went for a two-stop pit stop strategy.

Multiple DNF's

After seeing Verstappen’s early pit stop, the McLaren team decided to extend their run. By the end of the 20th lap, Most of the drivers were on Hard Tyres that last longer than the Mediums. On the other side,  Williams Racing once again faced a nightmare as Alex Albon faced engine issues in his car and was out of the race. VCARB driver Loiam Lawson also faced some technical issues, and was called back to the pits to safeguard his PU.

Frustrating Tyre Strategy

Fernando Alonso, who started at P6, very soon lost position and was pushed to the back by Lando Norris and fell to P8. Same for Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton, and the seven-time world champion lost his P5 position to his fellow counterpart. His teammate Charles Leclerc was made to wait a bit longer for a pit stop as they felt running too much on Medium tyres is dangerous, as they could lose race position.

Battle of the McLarens

The race was boring until the two McLarens fought each other in the final five laps. Lando Norris tried to overtake Oscar Piastri, and the australian driver defended his position. On the main straights, Lando went for a gap which wasn't there, and his front tyres touched Oscar’s rear, and he was pushed to the walls. Norris was out of the race, and McLaren lost some valuable points.

Oscar will now keep his championship leader position, and Lando is the only driver near his points. There will be a big briefing after the race, eventhough Lando accepted his mistake and took full responsibility for the incident. The contact between the two McLarens has gifted the other drivers behind to gain position.
